Friday Technique: Hip Bump Sweep
Friday technique the hip bump sweep! Join Coach Carlos and his student Kacper as they show you the hip bump sweep. For the month of March the kids in our lil warriors and Jr Warrior program are getting to know this technique and working all month to perfect this. Enjoy!
This is a great technique to teach both kids and beginner adults how effective you can be from fighting off your back. Being offensive while your back is on the ground is what separates jiu-jitsu from every grappling martial art.
The leverage comes from the use of the hips. Lifting the hips and posting on the hand behind you is the most important aspect of the sweep.
Another important detail is Kacper is holding onto Coach Carlos’ arm to block him from preventing the sweep.
Kacper keeps the arm close to his own chest.
The steps for the technique;
- Swim the hands to get your partner’s hands on the ground
- Open your guard and scoot back
- Sit up and post your hand behind and grab the arm
- Lift the hips
- Finish the sweep
This is one of Coach Carlos’ favorite sweep and has used this sweep at the black level in competition.
